Tom Pryce was a Welsh racing driver who competed in Formula One from 1974 until his death in 1977 at the age of 27. He started his racing career in 1969 and quickly moved up the ranks to success in Formula Three and then Formula Two.
Pryce made his Formula One debut in 1974 with an uncompetitive Shadow team, but was quickly signed by the more competitive Ensign team. He achieved his first podium finish in 1975 at the Swedish Grand Prix and followed that up with two more podiums in 1975 and 1976.
Pryce was known for his speed and aggressive driving style. He was often considered one of the most promising drivers of his generation, and had been tipped as a future world champion.
Unfortunately, on March 5, 1977, Pryce was killed during the South African Grand Prix at Kyalami. During the race, he collided with a marshal who was running across the track to attend to another driver's car that had broken down. Pryce was unable to avoid the marshal and hit him at full speed, causing fatal injuries to both the marshal and Pryce.
Tom Pryce's death was a tragic loss for the racing world, and his talent and potential continue to be remembered today.
